Sons of the Forest: How to Get a Flashlight
The flashlight is one of the items players can get on Day 0 in Sons of the Forest, so here's where to find and how to use it.
As the sequel to one of the most popular survival horror indie games, Sons of the Forest brings on more challenges and a new storyline to discover after players crash onto a remote island. Certain tools, such as the flashlight, make life in the cannibal-invested forest easier. The flashlight is one of the items that players should get as soon as possible, especially if they want to explore at night or inside terrifying caves.
The flashlight isn't the only light source available since there is a plasma lighter and crafted torches in the game, but it is the most effective. The cannibals and cave mutants are more likely to make their presence known in the dark, so if players want to protect themselves, it is best to have as much light as possible. Here's where to find the flashlight and how to use it in Sons of the Forest.

Getting the flashlight is less problematic than some of the other key items in Sons of the Forest. The flashlight is northwest of the snowy mountain in the island's center. Using the GPS makes finding its exact location a lot easier because it is on the body of a fallen soldier who happens to have a GPS locator attached to him that shows up as a purple symbol on the map. The map has three GPS locators, and the flashlight is at the one closest to the mountain.
Once players reach the locator's range, they will hear a high-pitched beeping sound that gets closer and closer together as they approach. If coming at it from the west, they will see the body hanging from a rope tied around a moss-covered rock on a cliff. There are two options to get the soldier down:
The flashlight will be near the soldier's body, along with the GPS locator and a few other supplies. It will be fully charged, but players will eventually need to find batteries to ensure they can replace them as soon as necessary.
Thankfully, batteries are found all over the island in the crates, supply cases, and suitcases left behind. The crash site is an excellent place to grab some, and most campsites will have at least one pack. Whenever the flashlight is low on power, the bar on the side will decrease and turn red.
To replace the batteries, go inside the inventory by clicking "I" and left-click on the flashlight to add it to the crafting station. Next, left-click a battery pack directly above the crafting station to add it, then click the gear to combine the two. Players can either directly equip the flashlight from the inventory or click "L" in live mode to pull it up.
Sons of the Forest is available now in early access for PC.
